In today's world, artificial intelligence and advanced editing tools can do incredible things. A photo can be transformed in seconds. Weight can be reduced, faces can be reshaped, skin can be completely changed, and entire outfits can even be altered. But just because something can be done doesn't always mean it should be.
My editing philosophy has always been simple: I want you to look like the best version of yourself, not like a different person.
My Style: Natural with an Artistic Touch
My editing philosophy is centered around natural, artistic photo editing. I want you to look like the best version of yourself, not like a different person.
I love creating images that feel polished, timeless, and artistic. I use professional editing techniques, including modern AI tools when appropriate, to enhance photographs while preserving what makes you uniquely you. My goal is not perfection. My goal is authenticity. That means softening distractions, improving skin tones, enhancing lighting, and refining details while maintaining a natural appearance.
Why I Don't Believe in Extreme Editing
One of the most common requests I receive is to dramatically alter someone's appearance. Sometimes a client asks to look 40 pounds lighter. Sometimes they ask me to completely redesign their nose, jawline, or facial features. Other times they want major wardrobe color changes, salon-quality hair transformations, or extensive beauty modifications after the session.
Over the years, I've learned something interesting:
When clients see these extreme edits, they often tell me the same thing:
"I don't look like myself." In most of my cases, they end up preferring my original, natural edit. That's why I intentionally avoid heavy retouching that changes who you are. A photograph should celebrate you—not replace you.
Professional Hair and Makeup Matter More Than Most People Realize
Many clients are surprised to learn that some details simply cannot be perfectly corrected in post-production while still maintaining a natural appearance. For example, when a wig or hairpiece is not properly blended into the natural hairline, or when foundation creates a visible line of separation around the forehead, extensive editing can actually make the image look worse rather than better.
The reason is simple: editing software cannot recreate texture that isn't there. Attempting to completely remove these transitions often results in blurry, muddy, or unnatural-looking areas.
This is why I always encourage clients to pay close attention to their hair and makeup before their session. You don't need a professional makeup artist to look beautiful in photographs, but proper application and blending are essential. In fact, many mothers choose to do their own hair and makeup because it helps them feel more like themselves. While professional hair and makeup can be wonderful, some clients feel that a heavily styled look doesn't reflect how they normally see themselves. When they receive their portraits, they sometimes struggle to connect with the image because it feels unfamiliar.
One of the advantages of my photography style is that clients do not need to invest in every possible extra service to achieve beautiful results. With proper lighting, flattering posing, thoughtful wardrobe choices, and natural artistic editing, I can create stunning portraits while helping families keep those extra funds available for the things that matter most to them.
My goal is not to transform you into someone else. My goal is to capture the most beautiful version of you.
Whether your hair and makeup are professionally done or completed at home, I encourage a look that feels authentic, comfortable, and true to your personality. Some details can be refined during editing, but authenticity can never be created in Photoshop. Beautiful preparation will always produce better results than trying to digitally recreate details afterward.

Wardrobe Matters More Than Photoshop
One of the biggest misconceptions in photography is that editing can fix everything.
The truth is that choosing clothing you genuinely love before the session will always create better results than trying to completely change colors or styles afterward. Editing can enhance BUT It cannot magically replace thoughtful preparation.
The same applies to hair, makeup, and overall styling. A little preparation before your session will always look more beautiful and natural than trying to recreate everything digitally afterward.
Newborn Photography: Gentle and Natural
When editing newborn photographs, my approach is especially careful. Newborns naturally have skin flakes, temporary redness, baby acne, milk spots, and uneven skin tones. I gently soften these details while preserving the natural texture and beauty of your baby. My goal is never to create a plastic-looking baby.
Instead, I create soft, artistic images that still look like a real newborn.
Parents should be able to look back years later and recognize exactly how their baby looked during those precious first days.
For Dads Too
Dads often think editing only applies to moms and babies, but wardrobe choices matter for everyone. For example, editing can reduce minor distractions, but it cannot always completely remove heavy sweat marks, deep wrinkles in clothing, or significant fit issues while maintaining a natural appearance. Loot at THIS example, we have removed 60% the wrinkles BUT we can fix up to a certain point so still look real. Choosing comfortable, well-fitting clothing before your session will always produce the best final images.
A Little Secret About White Shirts
One of the most common wardrobe recommendations I make to parents is to consider off-white, cream, ivory, or soft neutral tones instead of pure bright white.
Why? Pure white acts almost like a giant reflector in photographs. It bounces a tremendous amount of light back toward the camera, which can sometimes reduce the beautiful texture and depth that we work so hard to create during a session. Off-white tones tend to photograph more softly and often create a richer, more timeless look while still maintaining that clean and elegant feel parents love.
That said, I completely understand that many families adore the classic look of a crisp white shirt. It has been a timeless choice for family and newborn portraits for years. If white is your preference, I absolutely respect that choice and will photograph and edit your images beautifully. My goal is never to force a particular style, but rather to help you understand how different wardrobe choices can affect the final result. At the end of the day, the best outfit is the one that makes you feel confident, comfortable, and like yourself.
