One Day They're Sitting... The Next Day They're Running

One of the things I often tell parents is that babies change incredibly fast during their first year. It feels like yesterday you were holding your newborn in your arms, and suddenly your baby is sitting independently, smiling, laughing, clapping, and showing off their unique little personality. Then, before you know it, they're crawling, walking, and running away from the camera. That's exactly why the sitter stage is one of my favorite milestones to photograph.
Why the Sitter Stage Matters
The ideal time for a sitter session is usually between 7 and 10 months old, when babies can sit confidently on their own but haven't started walking yet. This stage gives us the best of both worlds. Your baby is still wonderfully chubby, full of adorable expressions, and happy to stay in one place long enough to create beautiful portraits. At the same time, their personality is beginning to shine through in every smile, curious look, giggle, and expression. It's often the first time parents truly see their baby's unique little character captured in photographs.
Before Those First Steps Arrive
Once babies begin walking, everything changes. They become busy little explorers. They're constantly moving, discovering, and chasing their next adventure. While that stage is wonderful too, sitter sessions capture a very special chapter that only lasts a few short months. The soft baby cheeks. The tiny toes. The proud sitting posture. The sweet expressions. The joyful curiosity. This is also one of the last stages where babies are happy sitting in beautifully styled setups and specialty props. Because they can sit independently while still staying in place, we can safely create a variety of adorable scenes using baskets, beds, crates, themed props, and whimsical accessories that become much more difficult once they start walking. These creative setups help tell your baby's story while showcasing their growing personality in a fun and memorable way. These are the moments many parents later realize passed far too quickly.

A Beautiful Collection of Specialty Headpieces
To make your session even more unique, I offer a beautiful collection of specialty bonnets and headpieces designed especially for milestone photography. Families can choose from a variety of whimsical and timeless bonnets including:
šø Floral š° Bunny š» Bear š¼ Panda nets šØ Koala š» Sunflower and many other adorable options that help create portraits full of personality and charm. Every setup is carefully styled to create images that feel magical while still keeping the focus on your beautiful baby.

Memories You'll Treasure Forever
Years from now, you won't remember exactly how many toys your baby had or which outfit they wore most often. But you'll remember their smile. Their little expressions. Their chubby hands. Their bright eyes looking back at you. That's the beauty of a sitter session. It preserves a chapter of your baby's story that can never be repeated. And that is exactly why this milestone deserves to be celebrated.
